Board of Nursing’s Discipline Data Dashboard
The Board of Nursing [BON] continues to offer access to data online, to include its Discipline Data Dashboard, which updates the first Wednesday of each month, here: Discipline Data Dashboard | Washington State Board of Nursing
What is noteworthy is that disciplinary actions concerning Licensed Practical Nurses [LPNs] weigh more heavily than actions against Registered Nurses [RNs] or Advance Practice RNs, as to the respective number of licensees for each type of licensure. For example, actions against LPNs constitute thirteen percent (13%) of all licensed LPNs versus five percent (5%) of RNs and four percent (4%) of APRNs as of July 2025, for this year.
Of course, reporters are immune from civil liability for making the reports and some of the critical data is simply not collected, i.e., the source of the complaint. Health care facilities are required to make reports when a licensee is terminated for unprofessional conduct. But complaints can also be made by professional cohorts who may try to shift their own blame or unhappy patients and/or their family members.
Nurses know that LPNs are relied on heavily, which may expose them to even more scrutiny, which could account for the higher number of complaints for the population. [Note, the BON does not currently oversee CNAs, and these numbers are not included in the discipline dashboard data].
Regardless, you will want to consult with counsel before responding to any complaints, for better or worse, statistics aside.
