Artificial-Intelligence in Nursing Practice

AI is being pulled into the healthcare profession as quickly as possible to ensure efficiencies, but to what end with a licensee?

There are genuine issues in the various AI tools routinely used in the profession that at least seventy percent (70%) of the charting contained errors, to either be omissions or fabrications.  Journal of Medical Internet Research - Accuracy and Safety of AI-Enabled Scribe Technology: Instrument Validation Study. There was also bias demonstrated in charting and triage logic, where AI scribes struggled with accents, dialects, or speech of those from marginalized communities. 

Regardless, it is the nurse who is ultimately on the hook for any errors, not AI—the American Nurses Association has put forward its statement on the ethical use of AI: ANA Position Statement: The Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence in Nursing Practice | OJIN: The Online Journal of Issues in Nursing  Just know if you ignore your responsibility in using AI professionally, you will not be excused from such errors.
